What it checks

The six reasons a page never shows up in Google

Most indexing problems are technical and invisible until you look. The checker flags each one on a sample of your live pages.

noindex tags

A meta robots or X-Robots-Tag noindex tells Google to stay away. Easy to leave on by accident after a launch.

404s and errors

URLs in your sitemap that return not-found or server errors get dropped from the index.

Redirects

A page that redirects elsewhere hands its indexing to that other URL, not the one you submitted.

robots.txt blocks

A disallow rule can quietly wall off whole sections of your site from being crawled at all.

Wrong canonicals

A canonical tag pointing at a different page tells Google to index that one instead of this one.

Slow discovery

Even a perfect page can wait weeks if Google has not found it. Active submission is the fix.

How to check if Google has indexed your site

There are three ways to see what Google has indexed, and each answers a slightly different question.

1. The site: search

Type site:yourdomain.com into Google. The rough result count is how many of your pages Google is showing. It is quick, but it is only an estimate and it will not tell you why a page is missing.

2. Google Search Console

For sites you own, the URL Inspection tool gives the exact index status of any page, straight from Google. It is the source of truth, but you can only check pages one at a time, and only for verified properties.

3. This free checker

Our checker reads your sitemap and inspects a sample of real pages for the technical problems above. It will not tell you a stranger's live index status, because that needs their Search Console, but it does show you the blockers that keep pages out of Google in the first place, which is usually the thing you actually need to fix.

FAQ

Common questions

How do I check if Google has indexed my site?
Type site:yourdomain.com into Google for a rough count, or use Search Console URL Inspection for an exact answer on your own site. Our free checker takes a different angle: it reads your sitemap and inspects a sample of pages for the technical problems that block indexing, such as noindex tags, 404s, redirects and robots.txt rules.
Why are my pages not being indexed by Google?
Usually a noindex tag, a 404 or server error, a redirect to another URL, a robots.txt block, or a canonical pointing at a different page. Slow discovery is the other big one: without a sitemap and active submission, Google can take weeks to find new pages. The Index Pilot submits every new page automatically and re-checks until it is indexed.
Is the checker really free?
Yes, completely free with no sign-up and no credit card. Enter a domain and it inspects a sample of your pages right away.
Can you tell me exactly which pages Google has indexed?
For your own site, yes, once you connect Google Search Console inside The Index Pilot. That is the only honest way to read live index status, and it is exactly what the paid product uses to show you the gap and close it automatically.
